Hut 8 (NASDAQ:HUT) dropped on Friday, October 30, 2026, as bitcoin slid to a six-week low following a reported hack at Binance. The shares fell in premarket trading and were lower again by late morning, according to market data. No company-specific news was found; the stock moved with the crypto sector.

Hut 8, a Russell 2000 member based in Miami, mines bitcoin and develops energy and digital infrastructure, including data-center capacity that can serve high-performance computing and AI customers. Its shares tend to amplify moves in the bitcoin price, rising faster in rallies and falling harder in selloffs.

What happened at Binance

Binance disclosed a breach on Thursday evening and confirmed on Friday that about $6.3 billion had been stolen, which would be the largest crypto theft on record. TRM Labs and Elliptic, two firms that trace blockchain transactions, tied the attack to North Korea. Market reports said that Binance blamed a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop.

Binance said it would cover the losses from its own funds. "We are committed to covering all hacked losses through our company funds," co-CEO Richard Teng said. About $3 billion of the stolen Assets was reportedly frozen, and market reports said that withdrawals were to resume by Sunday. Circle, the Stablecoin issuer, said it froze $800 million in USDC in coordination with law enforcement, according to market data

Bitcoin's slide

The hack added to pressure that had been building through October. Bitcoin traded around $76,700 to $77,600 on Friday, down from about $86,000 earlier in the month, marking a six-week low. Ether traded around $2,237.

A digital-assets research head said, "I suspect the negative price action still has some way to go,"

Hut 8 fell alongside other miners, including Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT), MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Cipher. Crypto platforms dropped too: Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) slid after its own quarterly Revenue missed estimates, and Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD), Strategy and Circle also declined. The selling even reached exchange-adjacent names such as Galaxy Digital and Figure Technology Solutions.

The broader backdrop

Friday was the worst day for Wall Street since June. The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June 5. The Russell 2000 slid 47.37 points to 2,811.84.

Much of the damage came from technology. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s weak fourth-quarter outlook and cash-burn warning set off a chip rout, and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s negative trailing free Cash Flow deepened concerns about the cost of AI. That weighed on companies such as Hut 8 that have pitched their power and data-center assets to AI customers. A hawkish Federal Reserve also hung over the market; the Central Bank held rates this week, but two officials dissented in favor of a hike.

What to watch

For Hut 8, the price of bitcoin remains the main driver. Investors will be watching whether Binance restores withdrawals on schedule and whether additional stolen funds are frozen, which could ease pressure on crypto markets.

They will also track the AI-infrastructure trade, given Hut 8's push into data centers. Next week brings the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, November 6, both of which could shift appetite for risk assets. With no company-specific news behind Friday's move, the stock's direction may hinge on the token.
