Galaxy Digital (NASDAQ:GLXY) traded lower on Friday, October 30, 2026, falling in premarket trading as digital-asset stocks absorbed the fallout from a reported $6.3 billion theft at Binance. No company-specific news was found for Galaxy. The stock moved with the crypto sector, which came under heavy pressure.
Galaxy, a financial-services firm focused on digital Assets and blockchain infrastructure, is often traded as a proxy for the health of the crypto economy. On Friday, that economy took a hit from several directions at once.
The Binance breach
Binance disclosed a breach on Thursday evening and on Friday confirmed that about $6.3 billion had been stolen, which would be the largest crypto theft on record. TRM Labs and Elliptic tied the attack to North Korea, according to market data. Binance blamed a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop, market reports said.
The exchange moved to reassure customers. "We are committed to covering all hacked losses through our company funds," co-CEO Richard Teng said. Roughly $3 billion of the stolen assets was reportedly frozen, and withdrawals were expected to resume by Sunday. Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL) was among the parties that helped Binance freeze stolen funds, market reports said.
Bitcoin fell to around $76,700 to $77,600, a six-week low and well below the roughly $86,000 it fetched earlier in the month. Ether traded near $2,237. A digital-assets research head said: "I suspect the negative price action still has some way to go,"
A sector-wide retreat
The selling was broad. Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) tumbled after reporting quarterly Revenue below estimates, Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) and Strategy sank, and Bitcoin miners including Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT), Hut 8 (NASDAQ:HUT), MARA Holdings and CleanSpark fell without company-specific news. Figure Technology Solutions and BitMine Immersion Technologies also declined.
The episode even spilled onto social media. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao addressed Elon Musk directly: "Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop,".
A brutal tape for risk assets
Crypto's troubles landed on a day when the entire market was in retreat. The Nasdaq Composite fell 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst session since June, after Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) warned of cash burn and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s results raised fresh doubts about the cost of the AI build-out. The S&P 500 lost 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Russell 2000 shed 47.37 points to 2,811.84.
Interest-rate worries compounded the pain. The Federal Reserve left its benchmark rate range unchanged earlier in the week, but two officials dissented in favor of a hike, and on Friday Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem argued for tighter policy. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin framed the debate this way: "I think the question though is pace." CME FedWatch showed traders treating a December increase as likely.
Other havens offered little shelter. Gold fell $132.50 to $3,898.90, a 52-week low, and silver slumped toward $49 an ounce, while oil rose above $100 on tensions around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
What to watch
The immediate question for Galaxy and its peers is whether Binance restores withdrawals by Sunday and how much of the stolen crypto is frozen or recovered. Investors will also track whether bitcoin can stabilize after its slide to a six-week low.
On the macro calendar, the midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the ISM purchasing managers' surveys and the October jobs report on Friday, Nov. 6, will feed into expectations for the Fed's December meeting, a key input for rate-sensitive, high-volatility assets such as crypto stocks.
