Cboe Global Markets (CBOE:CBOE) rose 6.98% on Friday after the exchange operator reported third-quarter 2026 results featuring record Diluted Earnings per Share and a higher growth target for the year. The release landed on a day when the VIX Volatility index, a benchmark Cboe calculates, jumped to 19.42, giving investors another reason to back a company that tends to benefit from turbulent markets.
Record Earnings
Net revenue rose 18% to $712.2 million from $605.5 million. Diluted earnings per share were $4.08, up from $2.85 and a record for the quarter, and adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to $3.63 from $2.67, up 36%. Net Income allocated to common stockholders climbed to $426.7 million and Operating Income rose to $534.3 million from $370.3 million.
Part of the jump in reported profit reflected portfolio changes. Cboe completed the sale of Cboe Australia to TMX Group on July 31, recording a net gain of $71.5 million, and has announced plans to divest Cboe Canada.
A Higher Outlook
Cboe raised its 2026 target for organic total net revenue growth to the high teens from a mid-to-high-teens range, lifted expected organic growth for its Data Vantage unit to the mid-teens, and lowered its adjusted Operating Expense forecast to $830 million to $845 million. It also extended its S&P index license through 2051 and added $550 million to its share buyback program.
Volatility Helps Exchanges
The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points, or 1.8%, to 7,580.07 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 747.73 points, or 2.9%, to 25,437.00, as Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s weak outlook triggered a chip rout and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s results revived worries about AI spending. Hedging Demand and trading activity tend to rise in such conditions, and Cboe's Index Options and VIX franchises sit at the center of that activity.
What Investors Watch
Investors will watch whether elevated volatility persists into November, the pace of options Volume growth, progress on the Cboe Canada divestiture and growth in the data business, which provides a Recurring Revenue stream less dependent on trading activity.
