Fiscal 2026 Results: Earnings Up, Margin Lower
On 30 July 2026 Axos reported results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended 30 June 2026. Fiscal 2026 net income rose to $490.4 million from $432.9 million, and diluted earnings per share increased 14.1% to $8.48. Net interest income was $1,246.9 million, and non-interest income climbed to $233.6 million from $131.1 million. In the fourth quarter, net income was $124.9 million, or $2.16 per diluted share, against $110.7 million, or $1.92, a year earlier. The quarter included a $21.0 million accrual relating to a FINRA arbitration. Adjusted earnings per share, a non-GAAP measure, was $2.53. Excluding that accrual, market data put diluted earnings per share at $2.46. Net interest margin eased to 4.54% from 4.84%, and the efficiency ratio rose to 54.23% from 46.87%. Return on average common equity was 15.69% for the quarter and 16.32% for the year, against 16.85% and 17.30% respectively a year earlier. The provision for credit losses was $17.9 million in the quarter and $101.1 million for the year.
Acquisitions, Deposits and Capital
Growth was supported by acquisitions. The Jenius Bank deposit acquisition closed in May 2026, adding about $2.3 billion of deposits, and the Arc Technologies acquisition closed on 20 July 2026. Total deposits reached $24.57 billion, up 17.9%, while net loans were $25.60 billion. Book value per share rose 17.6% to $55.81, and the company repurchased $22.0 million of stock in the quarter at an average of $87.95 per share. Common equity tier 1 capital stood at 11.76% of risk-weighted assets at the holding company and 10.93% at the bank. Non-accrual loans were 0.60% of total loans, down from 0.79%, and the allowance for credit losses was 1.34% of loans. Tangible book value per share, a non-GAAP measure, was $50.96, and total stockholders' equity was $3.17 billion. Net loans rose by about $638 million during the quarter, and management put the loan pipeline at roughly $2.4 billion at 30 June, with fund finance contributing more than $600 million of the quarter's growth.
Acquisitions Are Adding Growth and Integration Costs Together
Axos Financial grew earnings and deposits significantly through the Jenius Bank deposit acquisition and the newly closed Arc Technologies deal, but margin compression and a rising efficiency ratio show the cost side of that growth, with Arc expected to add roughly $1 million a month to non-interest expense going forward. Management's fiscal 2027 outlook points to low-to-mid-teens organic loan growth and a fairly stable margin, though a temporary Capital One deposit transfer could depress the reported margin through a cash overhang without affecting net interest income itself.
