Papzimeos Launch Turns a Loss Into a Profit

Precigen (NASDAQ:PGEN) filed its Quarterly Report for the period ended September 30, 2026 on November 4, 2026. Papzimeos is the first FDA-approved therapy for adults with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, approved in August 2025 and launched in the fourth quarter of 2025. The product generated USD 72.9 million of revenue in the quarter and USD 147.6 million over nine months, when nine-month total revenue was USD 152.4 million. Net Income was USD 35.8 million, or USD 0.08 per diluted share, against a net loss attributable to common shareholders of USD 325.3 million, or USD 1.06 per share, which included a USD 179.0 million non-cash deemed dividend.

Why the Swing Is Larger Than the Sales Alone

Part of the improvement came from items that were absent this year. Other expense, net was USD 2.7 million against USD 111.9 million, mainly because a USD 111.5 million Warrant Liability charge in the prior-year quarter did not recur. Research and development expense fell because Papzimeos production costs are now capitalized as inventory rather than expensed, while selling, general and administrative expense eased 6.8% to USD 22.4 million. The filing warns that cost of products should rise as a share of revenue now that substantially all pre-launch inventory has been sold, which could narrow margins. Cost of products and services was USD 6.5 million against USD 1.0 million a year earlier. The nine-month net income was USD 47.9 million, with SG&A up 25.1% on commercialization costs.

Cash Collections, Term Loans and Pipeline Risks

Operating cash flow was positive at USD 11.9 million in the quarter, but nine-month Operating Cash Flow was an outflow of USD 49.8 million because changes in operating Assets and liabilities used USD 112.2 million, driven mainly by higher receivables. Cash and equivalents were USD 15.0 million, with short-term investments of USD 31.1 million and Long-Term Investments of USD 4.9 million. Management believes cash, investments and expected collections will fund operations for at least a year, and the company has a senior secured term Loan Facility of up to USD 125.0 million, of which USD 100 million was funded in September 2025. Revenue depends almost entirely on one product sold through a single wholesaler, and the filing cites demand, reimbursement and Manufacturing risks. A European Marketing application is under review.

Where Things Stand

Mostly because of one launch. Papzimeos supplied USD 72.9 million of the USD 74.1 million in revenue, and the prior-year comparison was also flattered by the absence of a USD 111.5 million warrant charge. Precigen (NASDAQ:PGEN) says it reached profitability from continuing operations in the second quarter of 2026 and turned operating cash flow positive in the third. Next markers are collection of the large receivable balance, cost of product as launch inventory runs out, European regulatory review of Papzimeos and the redosing trial.
