Dollar Revenue Growth Masks a Flat Rand Line

Lesaka Technologies (NASDAQ:LSAK) filed its fiscal first-quarter 10-Q on November 4, 2026, covering the three months to September 30, 2026. Revenue rose by USD 13.1 million, or 7.7%, in U.S. dollars, yet slipped 0.6% in South African rand. The filing says the U.S. dollar was 8% weaker against the rand, which lifted the reported dollar figures. Lower fees followed the exit of the ATM Business and lower ADP revenue in Merchant, partly offset by higher insurance premiums, lending revenue and Enterprise ADP activity. The company operates Merchant, Consumer and Enterprise payments and financial services businesses, with results driven largely by the rand. The filing attributes the lower operating result mainly to a weaker Merchant contribution and rebrand costs, partly offset by Consumer, Enterprise and lower amortization of acquired intangibles. The Operating Margin was negative 0.6% against 0.1%.

Consumer Surges While Merchant Margins Compress

The segment split explains the 10% decline in Group Adjusted EBITDA. Consumer contributed USD 12.7 million against USD 8.5 million, helped by insurance premiums and lending revenue after higher Loan originations. Merchant fell to USD 4.7 million from USD 8.9 million, with its margin at 4.0% versus 7.0%, and Enterprise added USD 1.8 million versus USD 1.3 million. Group costs rose to USD 5.6 million from USD 3.6 million. Active merchants were 132,892, essentially flat, with Community merchants up 2% and Corporate merchants down 11%. Merchant monthly revenue per user eased 5% to ZAR 1,563.

Cost Growth, Credit Allowances and the Bank Zero Deal

Cost of goods sold rose 4.6% to USD 124.1 million, while selling, general and administration expenses outpaced revenue at 29.9% growth. Drivers included employment costs, rebrand marketing, consulting fees and a higher allowance for credit losses as Consumer and Merchant lent more. Depreciation and amortization fell 22.7% to USD 10.0 million as acquired intangibles were fully amortized. Net interest charge decreased to USD 3.7 million from USD 4.5 million. Transaction Costs related to the proposed Bank Zero Acquisition continued. The filing also corrects an error in the prior-year quarter, so comparisons use the corrected figures. No numeric guidance appeared in the material reviewed.

Where Things Stand

Revenue did rise, but the headline growth owes a lot to a weaker dollar, and profit moved the other way. Lesaka Technologies (NASDAQ:LSAK) grew dollar revenue 7.7% while Group Adjusted EBITDA fell 10%, because Merchant weakened and spending on the rebrand, staff and credit provisions rose faster than sales. Consumer was the bright spot. Watch the Merchant recovery, credit loss trends as lending expands, the proposed Bank Zero acquisition and whether expense growth slows from the 29.9% pace.
