AdvanSix (NYSE:ASIX) reported third quarter sales of USD 430.8 million, up from USD 374.5 million a year earlier and above the USD 426.0 million estimate. Adjusted EPS was negative USD 0.24, compared with a negative USD 0.05 estimate and positive USD 0.08 a year ago. Pricing Offsets Input Costs, Not Fully
The sales gain came entirely from price. Favorable pricing contributed 17%, split between 10% from raw material pass-through after higher benzene and propylene costs and 7% from market-based pricing, while volume slipped 2% on weaker caprolactam sales. Chief executive Erin Kane said reduced production output also hurt Fixed Cost absorption.
By product line, Nylon sales rose 33% to USD 104.7 million and Chemical Intermediates rose 24% to USD 103.7 million. Plant Nutrients, the largest line at USD 149.3 million, grew 8%, while Caprolactam was flat at USD 73.1 million. Nylon now makes up 24% of sales, up from 21%.
Margins, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet
Adjusted EBITDA fell USD 10.1 million to USD 14.6 million, and the Margin narrowed to 3.4% from 6.6%. The company cited reduced production output and higher raw material costs, partly offset by higher pricing and a non-manpower fixed cost savings program.
Cash generation improved. Operating Cash Flow was USD 48.0 million versus USD 26.6 million, helped by working capital, and capital expenditures fell to USD 18.3 million from USD 26.5 million. Free cash flow was USD 29.7 million, against almost nothing a year earlier. Inventories declined to USD 181.4 million from USD 236.5 million at year end. Borrowings totaled about USD 268.5 million versus USD 215.0 million, with cash of USD 22.6 million. On August 14 the company refinanced into a five-year USD 425 million facility, made up of a USD 275 million revolver and a USD 150 million term loan.
Outlook and Capital Priorities
AdvanSix projects tighter ammonium sulfate Supply and Demand into 2027 amid challenged sulfur costs, and acetone spreads over propylene near cycle averages. It is working to improve Nylon price over raw material spreads in a soft industrial end market. Capital expenditures are guided to about USD 90 million in 2026, down from USD 116 million in 2025, and the pre-tax effect of plant turnarounds is projected near USD 17 million versus USD 25 million.
Management continues to project better second half cash flow on lower capital spending, Working Capital and a fourth quarter pre-buy program in Plant Nutrients. Project CENTURY was selected for a USD 47 million FIELDS grant supporting its ammonia platform investment, and the company is evaluating a potential DEF growth project and cites 45Q carbon capture tax credits as a support to future Earnings and cash flow. The board declared a quarterly Dividend of USD 0.16 per share, payable December 1 to holders of record on November 17.
