Truck Sales Outpace Industry Growth

Rush Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:RUSHA) reported third quarter revenues of USD 2.113 billion, up 12.4% from USD 1.881 billion in the same period of 2025. Net income was USD 78.0 million, or USD 0.65 per diluted share, compared with USD 66.7 million, or USD 0.55 per diluted share, a year earlier. The company said growth was primarily due to increased new truck deliveries and aftermarket activity, reflecting continued improvement in freight markets following an extended industry downcycle.

The company sold 3,880 new Class 8 trucks in the U.S. during the quarter, an increase of 24.4% compared with the same period of 2025, outpacing a 10.2% industry-wide increase to 59,616 units and representing 6.5% of the new U.S. Class 8 truck market.

Aftermarket and Leasing Segments Contribute

Aftermarket products and services accounted for approximately 62.8% of total gross profit, with parts, service and collision center revenues totaling USD 679.9 million, up 5.8% from the prior year period. The company achieved a quarterly absorption ratio of 128.3%, compared with 129.3% a year earlier. Leasing and rental revenue was USD 98.2 million, up 5.3%, supported by higher rental utilization and stronger rental profitability.

The company's results reflected a three-for-two stock split, declared by the board on July 28, 2026 and distributed on August 31, 2026, with all share and per share data in the release adjusted to reflect the split.

Capital Return and Regulatory Uncertainty

During the quarter, the company repurchased USD 10.3 million of common stock and paid USD 16.4 million in dividends, ending the quarter with USD 226.4 million in cash and cash equivalents. The board declared a quarterly cash dividend of USD 0.14 per share, payable on December 10, 2026, to shareholders of record as of November 11, 2026.

Management said quoting and new order activity have slowed recently as the industry awaits the EPA's final rules on 2027 emissions regulations, which could affect manufacturer pricing and customer purchasing decisions until the rules are finalized. The company's current backlog suggests new commercial vehicle sales remain strong into the first quarter of 2027, though supply capacity constraints may affect delivery timing.

Industry and Regulatory Metrics to Track

The timing of the EPA's final 2027 emissions rules, which the industry is awaiting before finalizing purchasing decisions, continued Class 8 truck market share relative to the 6.5% reported this quarter, and aftermarket demand trends relative to the 5.8% growth this period are among the items the company has flagged for investors.
