Net income more than doubles year over year
Chain Bridge Bancorp (NYSE:CBNA) is the Holding Company for Chain Bridge Bank, N.A., based in McLean, Virginia. It reported third quarter 2026 results on October 28, 2026, showing net income of $10.9 million, or $1.66 per basic and diluted share.
That compares with $9.5 million, or $1.45, in the second quarter of 2026 and $4.7 million, or $0.72, in the third quarter of 2025. On a calculated basis, net income grew about 132% year over year and about 15% sequentially.
Return on average equity was 22.84% and return on average assets was 1.92%, both annualized. For the nine months, net income was $27.5 million, or $4.19 per share, versus $14.9 million, with Return on Equity of 20.31% and Return on Assets of 1.81%.
Net interest income drives the improvement
The company said the $6.2 million year-over-year increase in net income was primarily due to a $7.6 million increase in net interest income and a $1.8 million increase in deposit Placement services income. The provision for Credit losses rose by $574 thousand against those gains.
Compared with the second quarter, net interest income rose $2.8 million, partly offset by a $525 thousand increase in the provision for Loan credit losses and other expense increases.
For the nine months, net interest income increased $13.9 million and deposit placement services income rose $5.2 million, while the provision for credit losses rose by $534 thousand.
Deposits reflect political organization balances
Total deposits were $2.1 billion at September 30, 2026, compared with $2.0 billion at June 30, 2026 and $1.4 billion at September 30, 2025. The company said the year-over-year increase was driven by growth in political organization deposit balances and other categories such as 501(c)(4) social welfare organization deposits.
Deposits placed off the Balance Sheet through IntraFi's Cash Service One-Way Sell program were $498.5 million, down from $668.0 million at June 30 and up from $146.4 million a year earlier. The sequential decline primarily reflected lower political organization deposit balances.
Because political deposit balances can move with election cycles, the sequential drop shows the Volatility that comes with this deposit base.
Nine-month growth on a calculated basis
Nine-month net income of $27.5 million compares with $14.9 million, a calculated increase of about 85%. Total deposits grew roughly $0.7 billion from a year earlier, while adding back the $498.5 million of One-Way Sell balances held off the balance sheet gives about $2.6 billion of total client deposits, against about $1.5 billion a year ago.
Return on average equity of 22.84% for the quarter compares with 20.31% for the nine months, which shows profitability improving as the year progressed.
