Same-Store Sales index at 97% While Transactions Keep Growing

The same-store sales index was 97% of last year's level, which management attributed to tough delivery-subsidy comparisons and extreme August weather. Same-store transactions grew for a 15th straight quarter. The KFC average ticket rose 5% to 36 yuan, while the Pizza Hut average ticket fell 8% to 65 yuan. System sales grew 3% and core operating profit grew 6% excluding foreign exchange.

Restaurant Margin was 17.8%, up 50 basis points, and operating profit margin was 13.0%, up 40 basis points. Management said September improved sequentially and October was in line with expectations.

For the fourth quarter, Yum China expects a sequential improvement in the same-store sales index and a 16th straight quarter of positive same-store transaction growth. Operating profit margin should be relatively stable year over year before the Pizza Hut Brand acquisition, which adds 50 to 60 basis points to restaurant and operating margins. For 2027 it targets 0% to 2% same-store sales growth.
