Loss Narrows From a Year Ago but Earnings Stay Below Target

Goodyear Tire & Rubber (NASDAQ:GT) reported third-quarter 2026 results on November 4, 2026, with a GAAP net loss of USD 238 million, or USD 0.82 per share. Rationalization charges of USD 148 million before tax were among the significant items excluded from adjusted results, which showed a loss of USD 31 million, or USD 0.11 per share. The year-earlier GAAP loss of USD 2.2 billion, or USD 7.62 per share, makes the comparison look much better, though this material does not explain that prior-year figure. Management described the quarter as a sequential improvement, yet CEO Mark Stewart said financial performance remains below expectations and that incremental improvements alone will not be enough.

Americas Profit Halves While Asia Pacific Gains

Segment operating income was USD 174 million, down from USD 287 million. After adjusting for the sale of the Chemical Business and the Dunlop brand, which affected net sales by USD 177 million, segment operating income decreased USD 57 million. Lower volume cost USD 77 million, Inflation USD 69 million, and higher tariffs and other costs USD 48 million, partly offset by USD 90 million of Goodyear Forward benefits and USD 76 million of favorable price/mix against raw material costs. Americas segment income fell to USD 96 million from USD 206 million on factory utilization and cost absorption. EMEA earned USD 12 million versus USD 30 million, while Asia Pacific rose to USD 66 million from USD 51 million, a 12.9% margin.

Transformation Office, Premium Mix and the Volume Question

The company has established a dedicated transformation office to evaluate and execute ways to improve structural returns and generate more consistent free cash flow. Premium mix is moving in its favor: tires of 18 inches and above made up 44% of sales volumes, up from 39% a year ago. Original equipment volume rose on Market Share gains, including 8.7% in the Americas, but replacement volume fell 2.2% there and 11.3% in EMEA, partly from planned SKU rationalization. Nine-month Americas segment income was USD 123 million versus USD 502 million. The release gives no formal guidance, so the investor call on November 5, 2026 is the next place for detail on costs, tariffs and capital.

Where Things Stand

Mostly by comparison, not by repair. Goodyear Tire & Rubber (NASDAQ:GT) cut its GAAP net loss to USD 238 million from USD 2.2 billion, yet the adjusted result swung to a USD 31 million loss from USD 82 million of profit, and segment income fell to USD 174 million. Offsetting that, premium mix, OE share gains and Asia Pacific margins improved. Next markers are the November 5 call, how the new transformation office defines its targets, and whether Americas utilization and replacement Demand recover.
