Anthropic's initial public offering could raise up to $100 billion, according to market data aggregation of coverage of the company's S-1 filing. The San Francisco-based maker of the Claude AI models filed the registration statement on Monday, October 26, 2026, for a listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker "ANT."
The scale of the potential raise follows from the scale of the company. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May, and its S-1 shows revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026. A company valued near a trillion dollars needs to sell only a modest slice of itself to raise an exceptionally large sum.
Why so much money
The filing also shows a first-half net loss of $80.7 billion. About $72 billion of that is non-cash and tied to convertible notes, according to the coverage, so most of the loss is an accounting charge. Even so, building and running frontier AI models requires vast computing capacity, and the AI industry's appetite for Capital was the defining market theme of the week.
That theme was spelled out in the Earnings reports of Anthropic's largest peers. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) held its 2026 capital spending plan at about $220 billion and signaled another increase next year. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s capital spending reached $51.4 billion in the third quarter. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) raised $25 billion in a Debt sale. A market analyst said that "Together, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta (NASDAQ:META) spent more than $200bn in the third quarter alone."
The market it faces
market data credited Anthropic's filing with helping lift the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq early in the week. The second half of the week was far less friendly. On Friday, October 30, 2026, the Nasdaq Composite fell 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June 5, and the S&P 500 dropped 140.32 points to 7,580.07.
Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s warning that it would burn cash this year sent the Philadelphia Semiconductor index sharply lower, and Amazon's negative trailing free Cash Flow of $42.4 billion deepened worries that AI spending is outrunning returns. The Nasdaq-100 lost roughly $2 trillion in Market Value during October, according to market data, and the Nasdaq Composite had its worst month since March 2025.
A trading specialist summed up the mood to market data: "It's all earnings based and right now, they're not producing." A senior market analyst said that "strong AI Demand is no longer enough on its own."
Rates and timing
Higher interest rates add another wrinkle. The Federal Reserve held rates steady at its October 27-28 meeting, but futures markets priced in a December hike, and three Fed officials said Friday that rates need to go higher. The analyst warned that "the risk is that higher financing costs will absorb more of the cash generated," a concern that applies to any company that relies on outside capital to fund growth.
No price range has been set yet. Market reports said that the market debut is targeted for the week of November 16, which would give underwriters a few weeks to gauge demand after the current selloff.
What to watch
The price range, when it arrives, will show whether the up-to-$100 billion figure holds. Before then, markets must absorb Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s results on Monday, November 2, the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, November 6. The tone of tech trading through mid-November is likely to frame how investors greet one of the most closely watched listings of the year.
